When you should and when shouldn’t you seed? Fall is always the best time to seed. Mid to late September when temps drop to cool nights. This will allow grass to develop all fall and the following spring before having to withstand a hot summer. Spring seeding is tricky. Never seed prior to crabgrass control in the spring. Few options
1. Seed early right after snow melt and hope seed germinates in time prior to pre-emergence crab grass application.
2. Preferred choice- wait until after treatment and then put down topsoil in spots you are seeding. This allows seed to germinate above the layer of crabgrass prevention.
Remmeber seed must have soil contact and be kept moist. Never flood or over water. This causes seed to wash away.
